Saturday night, as I was laying in bed with a slightly opened window, I could feel a breeze of sharp, fresh autumn air flowing into the room. For the very first time this summer, I felt like I needed to bring out a blanket. I rejoiced! After the heat of the last couple of weeks, I am welcoming the first signs of my favorite season - autumn. To me, fall is coyness, knits & texture, steam rising from my cup of tea, curling up inside the house, lots of cuddles and embracing nature, as it says goodbye to summer.
And that is exactly what we did last Sunday. We walked up to the wildlife refuge that is right next to our house (I still can't believe my luck that I live next to a forrest and next to downtown at the same time!) and showed Smilla the deer, new baby Tarpan, boars, chickens and wildcats. We brewed some strong, black coffee and cuddled up on the couch playing peek-a-boo. So much delight in this girls eyes when you say "where is little Smilla?" and then "there is little Smilla!". It really makes my heart open right up! Smilla also got to ride her freshly painted, freshly repaired rocking elephant, that is a treasured leftover from Truman's childhood.
We moved the boxes of fall clothes upstairs, so we can decide which clothes to keep & which ones to donate. Minimizing our wardrobe will be one big project in the next few weeks and as we do more research on conscious brands (for a few items, that we do need) I will be sure to share my finds with you.
I will have to get a nice warm jacket and decent boots. It is particularly urgent to find those, because - squeal of excitement - we are probably flying to Ireland in just a few weeks from now! Hence, we also spent part of our Sunday with researching a place to stay on "Air bnb".
It might not seem like the most exciting list of things to do on a Sunday, but I truly had a wonderful time just hanging out with my favorite people, dreaming about fall and all the excitement it will bring.
Oh, and Sunday evening an E-mail reached me from the creative ladies over at "Inspire me. Inspired be.". My submission to last week's theme "Humor in the everyday" got chosen as the winner! It always feels wonderful, to share my imagery & get recognized for it, even in the smallest ways. Now, I get to be guest judge this week and I picked the current theme - "Autumn, just around the corner". No surprises there.
Are you also seeing first signs of fall? Do you love it as much as I do? What do you have planned for the next few months? Share with me!
