Kerry, Ireland Pt 1: "Glamping" - staying in a vintage camper in Ireland

Are you a little bit like me? Do you love the great outdoors, being close to nature and to fully emerge in your hipster self - except, you hate the feeling of greasy hair, not having a toilet around  and living day after day off of canned beans?

If you love camping /  but you also kind of hate camping, then our latest vacation rental might be just the right one for you as well. On our recent trip to Ireland (the Kerry region, to be more specific) we stayed about 20 minutes south of Kenmare in a vintage camper.

Intrigued with the idea of "tiny living" and a hip vacation, away from the commercial tourist spots, we came across "glamping" (def. a la Wikipedia: Glamping is a portmanteau of glamour and camping...a style of camping with amenities...not usually associated with "traditional" camping....the luxuries of hotel accommodation alongside the escapism and adventure recreation of camping)

In the midst of beautifully green, rolling hills; completely tucked away lays the little farm of Marie & Jer (and their 3 children, 4 dogs, 3 donkeys, herd of ponies, ...). These two might just be the sweetest Irish people you may be lucky to meet in your life (and, if you have been to Ireland before, you are aware of how sweet people are over there in general!).  They fixed up an old camper, as well as an old gypsy wagon and created a cozy, slightly corky, wonderful holiday experience. We found ourselves far away from home, yet in this warm, familiar atmosphere.

Our "glamper" had all the things you could possibly want when going on a weeklong vacation to a potentially rainy place: basic cookware; funky chili lights; an array of classic games (a round of "mikado" or "settlers of catan" anyone?); an assortment of reads you would probably not have picked at your local library; but are now strangely enticing; tons of cosy blankets (if your heart is into crochet you have come to the right camper); and most importantly a tea kettle. And tea. And sugar. And even fresh milk in the fridge. Perfection.

The bathroom is conveniently located a few meters away in a separate tiny entity. It comes with the possibility of a hot shower, fresh towels and intriguing diy art work.

Upon arrival we realized there won't be - gasp - Wi-fi. Ultimately, that was probably the best thing that could have happened to us. No incoming work E-Mails, inquiries, texts, infuriating status updates, or any other online distractions for one whole week. We actually had to talk to each other!

I'm now realizing, that it took me 7 paragraphs to arrive at breakfast. That is crazy, as Marie's breakfasts are conveniently prepared for you every morning; incredibly rich, in both freshness and flavor; and clearly made with love. Irish breakfast with vegan sausages and apple chutney, pancakes with homemade lemon curd, omelettes (yes, they have their own happy chickens!) with sundried tomatoes, steamy porridge,... you get the picture.

I wanted to share all of this with you, because we had an incredible week staying there. But also, because many of you might be traveling to Ireland someday in the future. And if you do end up in the Kerry region, then it would be a shame if you didn't look up this place.
